BHP Billiton, Dendrobium Mine Coal Ventilation Project
The scope for the project was to increase the mine’s ventilation capacity and relocate the existing ventilation system, to stay ahead of the underground workings.
Bass was engaged to design, manufacture, install and commission a new fan system and to upgrade and relocate the existing dual fan system. The scope included 33kV switchgear and protection, three 33kV/690V transformers, three switch rooms, each with a 1250kW variable speed drive and main switch board, and field installation. The instrumentation included suction pressure, air flow, bearing vibration and temperature monitoring. Each fan system is fitted with A-B ControlLogix PLC and Citect SCADA, connected via fibre to the mine’s Ethernet network. Bass provided the full turnkey solution in-house and on time.
